Girl Scout Float Fundraiser

Clairbourn Girl Scouts Raise Money for 100th Anniversary Rose Parade Float

Girl Scouts at Clairbourn School raised nearly $700 in five days for the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary float by selling dedications of flowers that will be used to decorate the float that will roll down Colorado Boulevard on January 2, 2012.

Troop leaders and their scouts got the idea from the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles website and decided to set up a physical booth at their school for a weeklong float donation drive.  A different troop manned the booth each day, mornings and afternoons, selling dedications for $5 per flower.  In return for the dedication, donors were given an official Tournament of Roses sticker and an information sheet outlining GSGLA’s mission statement and ways in which GSGLA serve girls in our communities.  Donors also had a chance to write their honorees’ names on a poster rendering of the 100th Anniversary float.

The Clairbourn scouts encourage other troops to follow suit in hopes of starting a trend over the next few weeks and gaining support from other schools and service units.
