As many of your Junior troops start making their plans for San Francisco bridging in April, please remind them of these very important facts:
Should they need to complete the eform, this is the correct link: https://www. gsglavolunteerapps.org/ extended-travelhigh-risk- application/. If you have any other link book marked on your service unit Shutterfly, google group, etc – please delete it.
If anyone has any questions email us at travel@girlscoutsla.org
As always, the success of their trip is important to us, but risk management and girl safety are the first priority.
As many of your Junior troops start making their plans for San Francisco bridging in April, please remind them of these very important facts:
- Domestic Troop Travel training IS REQUIRED – regardless of the duration - in advance of the trip. There are several webinar options and a couple of Face to Face in Long Beach.
- Most of the trips will be only 2 nights and therefore only require a parent permission form signed by a Service Unit Manager or a designee.
- The Extended Travel/High Risk form only needs completed IF they are doing a 3+ night local or regional trip OR any national trip OR are including a high risk activity (as defined in Volunteer Essentials and the Safety Activity Check Points) while on the trip.
- ALL of the adults attending the trip, regardless of the number of nights, with the troop must be registered and cleared volunteers. The process is not overnight. Plan in advance to make sure this is done.

Special Events & Money Earning
All troops planning to host a Special Event or Money-Earning event will be required to take Council's Special Events & Money-Earning training. Council recommends that Older Girl Scouts (Senior & Ambassador) also attend the training.
WHAT IS A SPECIAL EVENT?:
A special event is defined as any event organized by Girl Scouts generally for Girl Scouts and meet any of the following criteria:
Money Earning Activities (MEA) will be assessed upon final report and deemed a MEA or not.
Note: Collaborations are when two or more troops collaborate and share expenses for such item as bus rentals. This would not be considered an event or Money Earning Activity.

WHAT IS A SPECIAL EVENT?:
A special event is defined as any event organized by Girl Scouts generally for Girl Scouts and meet any of the following criteria:
- Any event that includes girls/troops outside of your own troop beyond the scope of regular meetings with four or more troops.
- Any event that is a community service project for Take Action Projects, Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards (including fundraising).
- Any event that collects funds (regardless if profit is anticipated or not). Events that do not accept payment, make a profit or make less than $200 will not be counted against the four Money Earning Activities.
- If the event is some other organization’s event, e.g., parade or community clean up, it is NOT a Girl Scout event. However, the Girl Scout coordinator for participating Girl Scouts should CAREFULLY review the event organizer’s paperwork, being especially wary of requests for liability waivers and such. If liability is waived, parents should be made aware of that before their daughter participates. All Girl Scout policies, procedures, and guidelines must always be followed.
